Wo ein Werk, für das der Preis vergeben wurde, fehlt, handelt es sich um die "Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters" – dotiert mit 10 000 US-Dollar, vergeben von der National Book Foundation seit 1991 –, die jährlich dem/derjenigen verliehen wird, who has enriched our [= US-American, h.b.] literary heritage over a life of service, or a corpus of work.
