Mantel war die Favoritin der Buchmacher für den Man Booker Prize 2009. Wie die BBC
berichtete, war die Entscheidung zwar nicht einstimmig, aber:
Our decision was based on the sheer bigness of the book. The
boldness of its narrative, its scene setting. [...] We thought it
was an extraordinary piece of story-telling. Mit dem
neuerlichen Booker-Preis 2012 für die Fortsetzung von "Wolf Hall"
ist sie die erste Frau, die das "geschafft" hat.
